Welcome to Duckling Nursery
Outdoor Learning Day
The children in Duckling Nursery teamed up with our Reception Class children to celebrate outdoor learning. We decided to use our forest area to collect materials to create natural art inspired by the artist 'Andy Goldsworthy'.
We collected a range of different natural materials in the forest. We found sticks, leaves, stones, flowers, grasses, twigs and cones. We worked collaboratively together in groups of two's, three's and four's to create our natural pictures, patterns and sculptures inside a hoop frame. The results were fantastic, producing a wide range impressive of 'Andy Goldsworthy' inspired art pieces in the lovely summer sunshine!
The children in the nursery had a visitor this week. It all started when the children arrived in nursery for the
morning session and there were big muddy footprints all over the floor. Who made the footprints? Where have they gone? Was it a bear? A monster?? A dinosuar???
The next morning we found a baby dinosaur in our nursery. We named her 'Kota' and set about to find out as much about her as we could. We used the computer to search for information. We discovered that she was a Triceratops, lived in the forests of North America and was a plant eater. We adapted our role play area to make her more at home.
The children spent the next week finding out about dinosaurs, the diiferent kinds, how they lived, why they died and how we know about them today. It's been 'Roarsome' fun!
Emergency! Call The Fire Fighters
The nursery children have been finding out about 'People Who Help Us'. First explored how doctors and nurses helped us at the doctors surgery or in the hospital. Then we found out about the important job fire fighters do to help us. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Bishops Stortford Fire Service White Watch. The fire fighters showed us the special uniform they have to wear when they are fighting fires and then let us go inside their fire engine. We had a fantastic morning and enjoyed role playing fire fighters back at the nursery.
This week Duckling Nursery have been investigating colours and how colours can be changed. The children have got involved in a range of colour mixing experiments and investigations and discovered how to create all the colours of the rainbow.
The children in the nursery enjoyed 'World Book Day' and dressed up as their favourite book character. The children from Kingfishers class (Year 3/4) came to share stories with the nursery children.
Superheroes in training!
The children in the nursery have been training to be superheroes over the last few weeks. We have been reading the stories '10 Little Superheroes' by Mike Brownlow and 'Supertato' by Sue Hendra. The children have been finding out some of the characteristics of superheroes and role playing different superheroes in our role play area. We have also been devising traps to catch the baddies using a range of different equipment. We even trapped Ms Thompson!
