Science
Science at Richard Whittington creates inquisitive learners with a greater understanding of the world around them and beyond. It also enables children to question and challenge their thinking to deepen their knowledge and understanding through the use of key questions. To excite and provide children with first hand experience, lessons combine practical and investigative elements through the different routes of scientific enquiry. To ensure continual progression, lessons build on prior learning and scientific enquiry skills through making links and fostering independence.
Throughout the school children will investigate scientific ideas in relation to: themselves and other living things; the properties of natural and man-made materials; the effect of forces; sound; and light. They will be taught how to present their findings in writing, diagrams, charts and discussions. In all practical activities, children will be encouraged to take managed risks, with health and safety issues being stressed.
