Lunch and Milk Information

The school offers a three week lunch menu provided by Lunchtime club. Children are encouraged to try a little of all the food on their plates.

Parents must book the meal on School Gateway in advance with a hot meat/fish , a hot vegetarian  option,  jacket potato or pasta option or a cold packed lunch  option.  Booking closes at 8am for that day but can be booked up to 10 weeks in advance.  If your child is absent on a day you have booked please cancel or you may be charged for that meal.

If your child has a food allergy you will need to contact the school office to complete the application form. Children with a food allergy will not be able to have a school meal until the application has been completed and approved.

For pupils in Years 3-6 and Nursery the price of a school meal is £3.20 per day to be paid via School Gateway when booking a meal.

Free school meals

All children in Reception to Year 2 are entitled to free school meals.

If your child is in Years 3-6 and you believe they may be entitled to free school meals or for education benefits, either:

  • apply online;
  • contact the school office; or
  • contact the Helpline on 0300 123 4048 (lines are open Monday to Friday from 8am-8pm and Saturdays from 9am-4pm. Lines are closed on Sundays and public holidays. Calls to the 0300 cost no more than a national rate call to a 01 or 02 number.

Packed Lunches

Lunches should be brought to school in a suitable strong container with your child’s name and class clearly marked on the front.

At Richard Whittington we promote healthy living and we ask for your support in encouraging your child to eat healthily by supplying them with a healthy packed lunch.  Nuts (including peanut butter), sweets, chocolates and fizzy drinks are not permitted, though a chocolate bar such as a kit-kat is acceptable.

Snacks

At Richard Whittington Primary School we encourage the children to have a balanced diet and to make healthy lifestyle choices. As part of this we have healthy snacks at break time (fruit, vegetables, healthy cereal bars). In KS1 the children are given a snack so parents/ carers don't need to send one in. In KS2 parents will need to provide one for their child.

We encourage the children to drink lots of water to keep them hydrated. There are many times through the day when they can access their water bottles. Water bottles should only contain water.

Our School Milk Scheme

Our school provides a milk scheme that is available to all of our pupils and we would like to invite you to register your child.  School milk is free for all under-fives and is subsidised for pupils aged five or older.

Each pupil who registers with Cool Milk will receive a glass of semi-skimmed milk every day, which is delivered fresh and chilled to the classroom.  Their school milk will not only provide them with essential nutrients, but as it is rehydrating and energy boosting it also bridges the gap between breakfast and lunch to help children stay focused.

How to register

Milk is completely free for all children aged under five and is subsidised for children aged five or older.  Simply register at  https://customers.coolmilk.com/V2/register/
